Jacob Mirzaian

Hello, I'm Jacob Mirzaian! (they/them pronouns)

I am an educator, leader, designer and developer; coding, ranting, raving and forever recouping in Leeds, UK.

My work is all about creating accessible and inclusive spaces online and offline for learning and empowerment by helping teams and individuals craft digital systems, visual identity, language, and organizational practices which uphold their values, and mission.

This page showcases a selection of my tech projects, however I have also been a maths tutor, SEND teaching assistant, conference organizer, activist not to mention many other smaller roles. If you'd like to learn more about me or you'd like to collaborate, please don't hesitate to get in touch!

Selected Projects:

Codirector at Scarleteen:

After volunteering for Scarleteen since 2007 (including as an advice writer, chat operator, content moderator, site admin, and tech support), and later becoming Scarleteen's Tech Lead in 2021, I eventually served as a Scarleteen codirector from 2023 to 2025. As Codirector I continued to lead the tech team, while also contributing to organizational policy and strategic planning.

During my tenure as codirector and tech lead, I led several key projects, including, in recent years:

  • Putting in-place a DDoS bot/AI mitigation strategy with Bunny CDN/DNS, Varnish Cache and patching vulnerabilities in core PHP files. (2025)
  • Creating a custom content review system including both editorial UX and underlying logic with task delegation, revision history integration, approval workflows, category-based review phases, tracking and documentation. (2025)
  • Multi-site server migration to dedicated server running Linux and cPanel/WHM. (2025)
  • Migrating from in-house email-server to Google Workspaces. (2025)
  • Service relaunch (2023 - 2024) including visual redesign, content review, CMS migration (Drupal 7.x to Drupal 10.x), comprehensive customisations, content restructure, testing and launch.
  • Internal systems and tools for fundraising, project tracking, budget projection, documentation and onboarding.
